The Chamber is dedicated to serving your business interests and will give you the opportunity to air your concerns by participating on special committees.
The Public Relations Committee is the official spokesgroup for the Roswell Hispano Chamber of Commerce, and has the overall responsibility for interpreting the activities of the chamber to the public. This committee coordinates the appearances of Hispano Chamber representatives before public and private entities, all news items to the electronic and print media, all public service announcements and all advertising.
The Special Projects Committee is responsible for organizing and staffing special events on behalf of the Hispano Chamber of Commerce. These events are many and diverse, and it is the Committee's special responsibility to coordinate and oversee the work of event volunteers.
The principal responsibility of the Membership Committee is the recruitment and retention of membership. The Committee solicits new members among individuals, business concerns, public and private institutions and maintains a current list of the Chamber's membership.
The Cultural Committee is responsible for representing the culture and interpreting the cultural and historical contributions of Hispanic people. The Committee seeks out Hispanic cultural presentations which portray the depth and diversity of Hispanic culture, and interprets the significance of the presentations to Roswell and its citizens. It seeks to foster cultural pride among children and youth.
The responsibilities of the Economic Development Committee include establishing and maintaining liaison with the small business sector, businesses owned by minorities and businesses owned by women; determining the need for and conducting programs to benefit the city's economy, to include business seminars, trade fairs, job fairs and employment referral, and organizing economic promotion activity. The Committee maintains liaison and coordinates joint activities with the Mainstreet Roswell Project, the Roswell Chamber of Commerce and the City's merchants.
The principal responsibility of the Education Committee is to advocate for just and meaningful educational opportunities for all students. In this endeavor the Committee maintains membership in the Multicultural Alliance of RISD, the Multicultural Advisory Committee of ENMU-R, The Committee advocates for the employment of licensed and professional staff that reflects the racial/ethnic demographics of the student population. It advocates for appropriate role modeling for school children; and, when necessary, the Education Committee intervenes on behalf of students who appear to be misunderstood or unfairly treated. The committee conducts scholarship fund raising campaigns, awards scholarship assistance to disadvantaged youth. The Committee also encourages students to stay in school until graduation and to pursue a post secondary education.
Government Liaison Committee
The Government Liaison Committee maintains communication with New Mexico's congressional delegation and with area legislators. It monitors issues before the Congress and the State Legislature which affect the mission of Hispano Chamber and seeks ways by which that mission can be furthered through legislative action. The Committee maintains a proactive stance on legislative issues, and advises the Chamber on those which merit support or opposition.
